What you should know
The Warriors will play the entire four quarters on Friday, but are expected to have things taken care of long before then. After playing just yesterday, they’ll get right back to it, hosting the Detroit Pistons on January 5th at 10pm ET at the Chase Center. Given that they both suffered a defeat in their last game, both come into this game with a little more motivation.
On Thursday, Golden State lost 130-127 to Denver on a last-minute jump shot by Nikola Jokic. The Warriors have had trouble against the Nuggets of late, as their game on Thursday was their sixth straight loss.
However, the defeat does not tell the whole story as several players had good games. One of the most active was Stephen Curry, who scored 30 points and six assists.
Meanwhile, the Pistons fought well in their overtime match against the Jazz on Wednesday, but ended up with a less than desirable result. They fell to the Jazz 154-148. With the score rising so high, both teams could soon have additional defensive drills.
Despite their loss, the Pistons had several players rise to the challenge and make notable plays. Bojan Bogdanovic, who shot 8-for-15 from distance and was on his way to 36 points and 5 assists, was perhaps the best of them all. These 36 points set a new season record for him. Another player who made the difference was Cade Cunningham, who achieved a double-double with 31 points and 12 assists.
Golden State hasn’t been great lately, as they’ve lost four of their last five games, significantly hurting their 16-18 record this season. Detroit improved its record to 3:31 with this loss, which was its 16th road loss in a row.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday’s game: The Warriors have made deep shots easy this season, averaging 14.8 three-pointers per game. Things are different for the Pistons, however, as they only average 10.4 three-pointers per game. Given the Warriors’ significant advantage in this area, the Pistons must find a way to close this gap.
The Warriors were able to get a solid win over the Pistons in their last meeting in November 2023, winning 120-109. Will the Warriors repeat their success or do the Pistons have a better game plan this time? We’ll find out soon enough.
